C&I 445: Information Literacy Instruction for School Libraries

Into the 21st Century and Beyond

Just in time for our last class…

Just in time for our last class, AASl has given us a draft of the document we’ve been waiting for.  They’ve posted the first draft of the Standards for the 21st Century In Action – the document that explores the new skills, dispositions in action, resposnibilities and self assessment strategies in depth.

Here’ s the link: http://www.ala.org/ala/aasl/aaslproftools/standardsinaction/standardsinaction.cfm

AASL is looking for feedback to help shape the final document, so I encourage you to pass on your thoughts adn suggestions if you have them. This is our chance as professionals to help shape the future of information literacy, and we, as a group, have certainly studied and discussed the new standards more than most!

The entire doc is 109 pages.  I know you’re busy with assignments this week, but try to take some time to look it over before Thursday night.  We’ll chat about our impressions of it a little bit before we start watching your films.

Follow-Ups to Last Week

A few updates from last week’s class:

The Library Store: I checked their site and there’s nothing on it about their annual Garage Sale, which makes me think it may be past.  However, I did not  call to verify, as I have no money left to spend, anyway. :)   If you’re interested, you can get info to contact them, or get on their mailing list.  They’re great to work with, and it’s always nice to support a local business: http://www.thelibrarystore.com/

Also, here’s the website for the Center for Children’s Books at UIUC: http://ccb.lis.uiuc.edu/.  Their book sale was in February, so we missed it, too. :)   However, I highly encourage you to check out their site; it has all kinds of great resources, including reading lists and more.

Lastly, here’s the link to the info lit curriculum Angie showed us: http://www.iccsd.k12.ia.us/library/

Class tomorrow at Oakland Elementary School

Just a reminder that tomorrow’s class will be at Amy’s library at Oakland Elementary.  Street address is:

1605 E Oakland Ave
Bloomington, IL 61701

Please remember Amy’s advice to be there a bit early to make sure you get a parking place, due to the concert that is also tomorrow night.  Also, bring a little cash toward the pizza!  Amy said she’d provide drinks as well.

For my cell phone number, please see the email I sent – just in case you get lost!
